Art Therapy is a powerful tool for transformation which can be used effectively to help with anxiety, depression and trauma related symptoms, or for those simply seeking greater self awareness or connection with self and others. For individuals who have trouble expressing their needs, art therapy provides a safe space for relating with self and others.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST SESSION
Our first session is an opportunity to get to know each other using creative methods to help you feel safe and confident to explore your inner world at a pace that works for you. In this session, we create a therapeutic agreement which sets the boundaries and framework for our sessions. We then move into art-making where you will have an opportunity to explore a range of different art materials, beginning with some warm-up activities before moving on to more in-depth works - and the best part is that no prior art experience is required to use art therapy to enhance your well-being.
Being client lead means that you set the pace and the rate of disclosure. As needed, creative interventions will be introduced and explored to help you achieve your therapeutic goals, be it to increase your resilience, improve emotional regulation or simply to relax and allow the art-making to provide its own therapeutic benefits.
Art therapy is not a quick fix. It is a healing process that requires you to invest in your own recovery. Due to the nature of art-making, the art becomes a record of your therapeutic journey, providing a record of your incremental changes, be it related to self-defeating behaviour, feelings of sadness, fear or pain.
Each session is personalised to suit your needs so that you are provided with the tools you need to achieve your therapeutic goals.
